Susette Godin is a painter of landscapes, objects and people who grew up in rural BC where she developed her fundamental attraction to the outdoors. She studied drawing and sculpture at the University of British Columbia and later completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts at York University in Southern Ontario where she now lives (in Flesherton). Her work ranges from representational to abstract and includes many subjects from the area around her home in Grey County, Lake Superior where her family has a cottage and Mexico where she lives for part of every year. Godin attempts to transcribe a kind of visual energy of colour, texture and shape in her paintings. Her intention is to share a visual subtext which moves beyond the actual image to create a psychological experience as well. Godin enjoys sharing this personal process with others. She has a new studio space opening in Flesherton which will be open by chance or appointment.

From artist's website - "A couple of years after the advent of the new millennium, I set aside my writing pen, picked up a paintbrush and since that moment have preferred this medium for self-expression and creativity. Through brush strokes on the canvas, I endeavour to convey my feelings of seeing the beauty in the simple things around me. I seem to have a preference for items that most people pass by without a second glance; things that are often old and have fallen into decay (much like myself!), the aged patina of blistered paint and skewed structures, furrows in a field, a line of laundry. My loose, free flowing style leans toward the abstract but still has a clear story to tell. A certified yoga instructor, I strive to invoke my reverence for life into my art. A lifelong resident of Grey County, I draw from the area's plethora of everyday miracles. I find being an artist - the written not so much as the visual - is a life of solitude and being given the opportunity to share my work is a way to attempt to connect with others. It's an opening of the doors to my soul and initiating an invitation to my personal world. I am most happiest when I am creating."

Carol Binns-Wood was born and grew up in Montreal, where she studied fine arts at John Abbott College, before moving to Toronto to take the fine arts program at York University. She also studied at Arts Sake, an alternative art school in Toronto. Carol continued to participate in group and solo exhibitions but her bread and butter income was from hand painted clothing that she sold at craft shows and retail outlets. She moved to Flesherton in 1989 and opened her own retail craft shop, Local Colour where she has continued to sell her own work and that of 50 other artists and artisans. Over the years, she has phased out the hand painted clothing and now makes hand forged metal work as well as her own paintings, drawings, sculptures and mixed media creations.

Kate Esplen's love of horses and her intuitive understanding of their characters inspired her to draw horses, paint horses and make horse jewelry from a very young age. Her artistic expression over the years led her from the photo realistic pastel portraits of the horse's physical beauty toward more abstract equine paintings that better captured their real essence and spirit. Her abstract horse paintings use line and colour which are often mixed directly on the canvas with brush and a palette knife, and the occasional thumb, to capture the horses' movements. Her knowledge of their anatomy and their herd relationships add an intimacy to all her work.
