The Maxwell Community Centre is a non-profit entity managed by a volunteer Board of Directors. Rental fees are invested back into the centre and help offset costs associated with maintenance, repairs, and cleaning. Rental rates are offered separately for the kitchen, main floor and bowling alley depending on specific needs. The kitchen is equipped with two stoves, a cooler, a freezer, and a dishwasher. Coffee makers, dishes, trays, and other amenities are also available. The large kitchen is suitable for meetings and meals for groups of approximately 20. The main floor area has a stage and sound system, and tables and chairs. The lower level has a 2-lane, 5-pin bowling alley. At the rear of the facility there is a large yard with roofed pavilions and picnic tables.

Land for the church and the
cemetery was donated by Joseph Maxwell,
an early settler who ran a popular wayside
tavern for which the original village of
Charleston was re-named. June 6, 1893
the church was struck by lightning and
subsequent repairs included raising it to
install a solid foundation. In 2015 the
church was de-sanctified and then sold.
The current owner is re-opening the
renovated church and its property as an
indoor-outdoor celebration venue and has
converted the former Sunday school at the
rear into a two-bedroom B&B unit.

McCowan Stables has a group of well schooled horses for students to learn to ride. We offer riding lessons, leasing, coaching, boarding, training and clinics. Our program is suited to students who are looking to compete and become well rounded equestrians. Although we teach traditions of the sport, we provide a family oriented environment where students learn to rely on their peers for help and direction. We make sure that all students are involved in the process of learning. Lessons focus on individual needs and we always take the time to help a student improve their skills.
